With a month of this summer’s transfer market already gone, Unai Emery will need to move fast to bring in the reinforcements he desires. Today’s Gunners transfer roundup includes Arsenal entering the race for a Premier League defender, the imminent signing of an up-and-coming Brazilian and a former target poised to sign for another club.
Targett of interest
TEAMtalk is reporting that Arsenal are interested in signing Southampton left-back Matt Targett. The 23-year-old started just 13 league games last season for the Saints and may, therefore, be available. Liverpool are also reported to be interested in the player.
Martinelli soon to be a Gunner
Arsenal will soon announce their first signing of the transfer window according to Globo Esporte. Brazilian striker Gabriel Martinelli has reportedly signed a five-year contract with the club, with the fee believed to be in the region of £6m.
Schalke to sign Schubert
Despite formerly showing interest in the goalkeeper, Markus Schubert is set to snub Arsenal and join Bundesliga side Schalke 04 according to the Daily Mail and Bild. Following Petr Cech’s retirement, Emery needs a back-up to first-choice Bernd Leno, but Schubert believes he has more chance of securing the number one spot in Gelsenkirchen rather than in London.
