Reports from earlier this afternoon suggest Tottenham are hoping to sign a creative midfielder before tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline.
London Evening Standard report that Spurs have been in contact with Everton today to discuss a potential deal for Ross Barkley, a player they’ve been linked with for much of the summer.
But a Deadline Day alternative has emerged in the form of Barcelona man Andre Gomes, with Sky Sports reporting that the Spanish giants are essentially offering out the Portugal international in a bid to sell some players.
The 6 foot 2 playmaker is a fine talent and was part of the Portugal squad that won the European Championship last summer. Transfermarkt value him at £22.5million.
But Barkley, who also measures in at 6 foot 2, offers an abundance of Premier League experience in comparison to Gomes and would fit well into Tottenham’s blossoming English contingent, having represented the Three Lions on 22 occasions.
