Gary O’Neil’s contract with West Ham expires in the summer but the midfielder remains relaxed regarding a potential new deal.
O’Neil grabbed a goal and an assist in the Hammers’ 3-1 win over West Brom at the weekend and seems set to remain a first-team regular for the rest of the campaign, with Mark Noble sidelined.
The former Portsmouth and Middlesbrough man is out of contract at the end of the season and is keen to remain with West Ham but O’Neil insists he is in no rush to sign a new contract.
“I’m happy here, I like it,” he told London 24. “The club haven’t spoken to me yet, but obviously they have bigger things on their mind. There’s survival and Big Sam [Allardyce, the club’s manager] as well who hasn’t signed a contract.
“I’ll let the club and the people who deal with the paperwork worry about it.
“I’m just helping us push into the top half if we can. West Brom have achieved that this year. They have a fantastic 44 points so to beat them so convincingly is a very good sign.”
