Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to react after The Express revealed that Spurs are ‘working around the clock’ to secure a return for Gareth Bale ahead of the transfer deadline. The Express state that re-signing the 79-cap Wales international will be challenging with his £650k-a-week wages a major stumbling block, with a loan deal also ruled out.
Instead, the north Londoners are working on a permanent transfer with Real Madrid, while Jose Mourinho is believed to want three players signed before the deadline – his only capture this month has been Gedson Fernandes on loan from Benfica.
Bale has only made 15 appearances this season, netting three goals and registering two assists.
Tottenham’s other options include Spanish striker Paco Alcacer and Germany international Mario Gotze, although The Express state that Bale – a Southampton academy graduate – is Mourinho’s first choice.
The 30-year-old netted 56 goals in 203 appearances for Spurs, and would provide a real boost with Harry Kane set to be out until April.
Let’s see how the Tottenham fans on Twitter reacted to the news…
To kick off the reaction, these two supporters were in a pessimistic mood over a deal for Bale actually getting done.
John said that this story is “just smoke and mirrors” and believes that Spurs are just trying to make it look like they’re doing their best to re-sign the forward, and won’t actually be making any more additions this month.
Danielle echoed those thoughts, before adding that “we all know how this ends”.
Elsewhere, Adam said that this pursuit of Bale is “reminiscent of Sugar’s bid for Juninho” – former Tottenham chairman Alan Sugar had a bid accepted for the Brazilian in 1997, although – as Bleacher Report believe – the Middlesbrough man had no intention of joining and it was merely a PR stunt to appease fans.
“Daniel Levy seemed to fixate on trying to buy one player, Leandro Damiao, as if there were no other alternatives. It might have been a PR stunt to placate fans, similar to the one in 1997 when Alan Sugar had a bid for Juninho accepted by Middlesbrough when everyone knew he had no intention of joining Spurs. It turns out, neither did Damiao.”
Meanwhile, Daz said that they’d prefer to sign Bruno Fernandes, although neither are happening anyway – another supporter in a pessimistic mood, it seems.
Lastly, Helio Da Silva said that “Levy won’t do a thing” after hearing the Bale update.
Someone’s got to own them: Who do these incredibly unwanted PL records belong to?
Also, ‘Big Al’ said that the Welshman is “damaged goods” – ouch.
In other news, Jose Mourinho has issued a big revelation about this player who has shown “incredible evolution”…
