As reported by The Daily Mail, Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in signing former Netherlands winger Eljero Elia in this summer’s transfer window.
What’s the story?
Fans of Wolves can look forward to an exciting summer transfer window as the club prepare to build a squad for what will be a very tough battle in the English Premier League next season.
One player on their radar is form Hamburg and Southampton attacker Eljero Elia, who is currently playing for Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir.
That’s according to The Daily Mail, who say it would only cost £1.5m to bring the 31-year-old winger to Molineux.
The paper say Wolves had scouts at recent matches in Turkey to check on the current ability of the former Dutch international.
Would he be a good purchase?
Elia has had something of an inconsistent career but over the last two seasons has shown some fairly impressive form, first helping Feyenoord win the title last season with nine goals and eight assists, before going on to Turkey this term and netting eight goals and creating three assists.
However, at 31 and with a patchy record at Southampton last time he arrived in the Premier League, Wolves can likely aim higher when the summer transfer window opens. He scored twice in 16 matches for the Saints on loan in 2014/15.
At the reported £1.5m he could be a decent squad option, but Wolves will have resources greater than that and as shown this season have connections across the continent to help attract elite players to Molineux.
